SUSTAINABILITY
The construction industry has hugely detrimental effects on the environment
with respect to the production of greenhouse gasses, effects upon local ecology and the general waste of the earth's resources. Therefore everyone involved in this industry has a moral responsibility to address these issues and
minimise the impact upon our environment in every aspect of their work.
Beyond our moral and social responsibility, current legislation and client interests demand that the Masterplanning and design of each and every building
contribute to achieving important sustainability targets which are:
... minimising the impact on the consumption of energy and natural resources
... enhancing and protecting the natural environment
... delivering buildings and structures that provide satisfaction, wellbeing
and good value to users.
These targets are integral to everything that we do as an industry and RHWL
is committed to the rigorous implementation of a meaningful sustainability policy throughout the construction process.
RHWL Architects therefore:
... approach all aspects of our business in an environmentally considerate
manner, as a prime example to our clients and employees
... approach every stage of the building procurement process from concept
to completion with a sustainable agenda in mind
... discuss and agree achievable sustainability targets at the outset of a project
with the client and all other consultants
... carry out regular audits and checks during the design and construction process
against an established sustainability design guide to ensure that the agreed
targets are met
... carry out a final audit on completion of each project to obtain
feedback for future commissions
... continue to research and develop a sustainable agenda to ensure
the highest quality and performance.
