The Charterhouse is the flagship of the Malmaison boutique hotel brand. It is located on Charterhouse Square, a private road in the heart of fashionable Clerkenwell, within easy walking distance of the Barbican and Smithfield Market.

In 2000, Malmaison acquired the Edwardian building, a former hostel built in 1902, and invited us to design a hotel. The builiding had stood empty since 1997. After thorough investigation of the structure and the building's maze of small rooms, it was decided that a new interior would make best use of available space. The graceful gabled façade has been retained.
